Ornitarium in Denmark

Oiling the Ornitarium
Green Skills has now got an Irish Wwoofer, Angus, onto putting a couple of coats of protective oil onto the Ornitarium. Not so straightforward with all the strips of wood!. Big Feed
The M12 Group (IASKA's Denmark spaced: art out of place artists' who created the Wetlands Ornitarium), have just held their annual "Big Feed" artists' symposium in Yuma, Colorado. More than 300 artists and musicians from across the USA attend these events that are held in an agricultural showground. The Ornitarium
Over this last week the Ornitarium has nearly been completed. The opening for the structure will be this coming Thursday. With the on-site portion of the project complete, M12 will now focus their attention on Cooperative Ornithology, a companion piece to be shown at the biennial in Perth next February. The Kookaburra on World Listening Day

The shape of things to come
This last week found the M12 team spending lots of time working on-site at the Wetlands Education Centre and conducting community workshops and lectures. The week began with David Wyrick and Richard Saxton (M12) collaborating with a group of students from Denmark High School on the sitting blocks for the Ornitarium. Bird Callings
The M12 Collective continued working in Denmark this week with most of the groups attention focused on processing design ideas for the Ornitarium and continuing on-site work at the Wetlands Education Centre. Ornitarium in the works
In spite of some heavy rain and an ash cloud that was caused by a volcanic eruption in Chile, the M12 project moved forward this week. Reconnaissance trips were carried out around the Shire of Denmark and in Perth, with our attention being on local building strategies, exhibition concepts, site preparation, and material acquisition. Wood and Water

M12 begin exploring Denmark
Our focus has been on researching local materials, studying the vernacular landscape, and connecting with local community members since arriving in the Western Australian rangeland last week.
