Week 7

Brahmans at the Lovelocks: We visited the Lovelock's farm south-east of Moora where Kathy Lovelock is passing on her cattle skills to young apprentice Cate Roberts. We have encountered quite a number of farms where the women have taken up the job of rearing the cattle or sheep, while the men have found a different line of work outside the farm. Kathy has about a hundred head of Brahman cattle in ...

Week 6

The Bubble: This week Vicki Martin and her son Serge allowed us to film them moving large herds of sheep about their property in Watheroo. Week 3

Graveside: We began filming various families assembled around their family plots at the cemetery. These families had responded to an open call to be involved in the project, and we encountered many different versions of what constitutes a family. The participants - young and old - were very happy to assemble and stand vigil at the graves of their ancestors. We found ways to film them in both ...

Week 2

Rodeo: The rodeo came to the nearby town of Mogumber - population: not many - and we videotaped the recurring staccato bursts of activity. These included bareback riding, saddle bronc and roping cattle with most challenges lasting a brief 8 seconds or so of frenetic activity.SheepWe videotaped the activity of two local farmers, Steve and Liz Slater working in the sorting yards with sheep. We ...

Week 1

The Moora Cemetery: The Moora Cemetery connects far more hugely to the lives of Moora residents than we possibly could have imagined. The cemetery reveals a much more personalised, non-standardised approach to the marking of gravesites. While there are many traditional stone markers, many other graves have a spectacular array of personal objects in very unique spatial arrangements - more of which ...
